January 2021 Gallery Artist of the Month  ...  Janet Trobough

In 1998 after a long beauty and fashion career in the pacific Northwest, Janet decided to take a giant leap of faith and pursue a dream that had at times seemed impossible.

Janet painted in oils for many years and is self-taught. Art is now a second career for her, so with new determination she began to give in to her passion and paint on a daily basis.

Max Bunnell, Professor of art at Dixie State College in Southern Utah, provided Janet with her formal introduction to watercolor. From there her heart opened to embrace her new-found talent and opened up to her ancient Cherokee heritage.

Janet was powerfully experiencing her inner strength as a woman with dreams and aspirations, and now, a new way to express her strong sense of, “Who I Am Today”. The ladies she paints are emotional, sensual, and moody but always in a good way. You can feel the Native American power flowing to you in the grace and beauty each possesses.

Janet is currently displaying with the Moapa Valley Art Guild, the Mesquite Fine Arts Center operated by the Virgin Valley Artists’ Association, and Gallery 873 In Kayenta, Utah.

Art Encounter of Las Vegas represented Janet for many years and was given the opportunity to display and sell her work in Sedona, South Lake Tahoe, California and throughout Southern Nevada.

Janet also found her skill working with stone and alabaster. She loves the discovery revealed to her as she sculpts. She was very fortunate to have the opportunity to study with Sharon Gainsburg, a world-renowned Sculptor and teacher.

Although Janet loves painting Native American themes, she also loves painting on Gourds, exploring florals, landscapes and contemporary subjects.

Janet says, “I feel very fortunate for the opportunity to pursue my art full time.”
